Mary Higgins Clark – “I Heard That Song Before”
The Past is a shadow in the Present also in Clark’s gripping novel. Two scenes from the past are believed to possibly influence the Present – and the Future. Kay Lansing, when she was six years old overheard a quarrel in an old chapel. The same night an eighteen-year-old girl called Susan disappears after being driven home by Peter Carrington. Carrington, after the death of his wife drowned in the swimming-pool meets Kay and soon they get married. Kate develops doubts about her husband and at the same time Susan’s mother hires a private detective to solve the mystery of her daughter’s disappearance – before she dies. Sometimes digging in the past may put you in danger… Clark is not only a master of thriller, but also of emotions. It’s not the action which is most interesting: even when the gripping scenario has the most amazing structure, the centre, the core, are always human hearts.
