It’s impossible to save up a lot of money for holiday when you‘re a teen…

I have decided today that no longer will my parents rule my finances! I need money for holiday and I’m planning to save up some cash. I have devised a cunning plan. This is the time to implement it.

Today I have decided to take advantage of every possible opportunity to make money. I’m 17 and I have discovered that some companies will hire me. One of newspaper agencies has given me a paper route I start tomorrow. I’m ready. The alarm clock is set and my bike is waiting.

Woke up in the middle of the night and started delivering newspapers in the pouing rain. I’m afraid I’ve developed a cold.
I have a new idea: Instead of going on a date to dinner and a movie, I’ll go for a stroll through the park and have a picnic. (Much more romantic anyway). I wonder what Asia says… and the new “Bourne’s ultimatum” is coming to the cinemas…

Maybe I’ll just hide money from myself. Seriously. Then only allow myself a certain amount of money a month.

I have decided to ask if anyone needs help. Whatever I am good, at I can get paid for. I can tutor kids in a subject area I’m especially good at, mow lawns, babysit, clean their house, run their errands, anything just to get some cash.

I have to ask my parents if they will give me money for doing extra chores or saving electricity. Compare your electric bill to the same month as last year (try to get them to subtract inflation) and see if they’ll pay you for the electricity you save.
Remember!
1. Don’t buy stuff you don’t need.
2. Don’t buy extra junk food when you aren’t really hungry; wait until you get home to eat.
3. If you really need something, buy one that will last. For example, if you need a pen, don’t buy one that is going to wear out the next day.
4. Save that pocket change! Think a penny doesn’t count? Think again.
5. Clean your room. You may find money still in old wallets or under the bed.
