Teenagers about travelling

While planning going on a short weekend break or on a longer holiday we always have some doubts what type of accommodation to choose. Here are some personal opinions of students that have already checked what they like or don’t.

In the mountains is my favourite place to stay at while trekking. Chalets are always situated nearby the trekking routes and paths so you just have to leave the chalet to actually start trekking. Additionally, it’s always quiet and peaceful. The air you breathe is clear as you’re far away from the noises and pollution of the city. Your nerves calm down and you start enjoying the surrounding. After few days of living in a mountain chalet you become less tensed and stressed. What is more, all of the chalets have most of the necessities like running cold and hot water, cooker or a stove and electricity. If you are lucky, you can sometimes rent a chalet with a fireplace. Above all, you don’t have to share the chalet with anyone or you can take as many people to live with you as you like and the price for renting the chalet is the same. It’s great as I always go trekking with few of my friends.

I cannot imagine a holiday without sleeping in a tent. Since I was a child I have always loved staying in a tent. Now when I’m a student the best thing about a tent is that you only pay for sleeping in a tent once, and it’s when you buy it. After that you just ask people if you can put it up in their yard, garden or behind a barn and that’s it. During my lifelong experience with a tent only few people disagreed when I asked them about it. There are more things to the tent that I love. Firstly, when you choose a tent as your holiday home you have to remember to bring yourself some other equipment also. Among it a light weight sleeping bag and a stove. Secondly, maybe you could also think about taking a wind up radio and a torch. The best thing about tents is that, always when you feel like, it takes a second to choose the next place where you would like to put it up as you carry everything you need to do it on your back.

Camping caravan is one of my happiest childhood memories. My father always had one. When he pulled it out of the garage it always meant something pleasant. We would pack up taking everything we wanted and hit the road. As camping network is highly developed in my country it was certain that we would visit many interesting sites and see magnificent landscapes. We were travelling in the car, but as soon as father stopped the car we would all run to the caravan and start doing all the „holiday only” things which most of the time meant starting a fire, fishing and swimming, sometimes playing with newly met friends. Now, when I look at the camping holiday, I see that it cost next to nothing and was really well organised. We were independent and still belonging to a community. People that loved our style of spending free time surrounded us. It was great so as soon as I get a drivers licence I’m planning to take my friends for a camping break.

I’m used to staying in private rooms for rent. They always have a good localisation, preferably in the city centre, and good standards. Most of the time, you can even use the owners dining room and their kitchen including all of the appliances. Keep your things in the fridge. It reduces the costs of the stay as prices in restaurants in holiday resorts are roaring high as soon as the holiday season starts. Moreover, if you’re their regular guest you may be charged less for the room. And if you come regularly the room might simply be waiting for you always. A simple phone call is enough to verify it. The most important thing I like about private rooms is that you only pay for the nights you actually spent there. If the weather is bad and you decide to go home early, you simply not only don’t lose your money but also don’t feel obliged to stay until previously arranged time. Additionally, the owners let you park your car in their premises so you sleep well not worrying about having plate numbers from outside the region.

I cannot imagine sleeping without a roof above my head. Probably this is why I have only once spent a night in a tent. Since it has been a complete disaster I feel excused when I’m looking for a decent hotel for my holiday. Staying in a hotel has one thing I feel horrible without and this is the room service. When you are on holiday you are supposed to rest so you should let the rest of the world work satisfy your needs. It means having sheets changed, rooms cleaned, meals served and clothes washed especially for you and whenever you need it. You are freed from everyday worries connected with doing shopping and planning meals. You can treat yourself with visiting beauty saloon and using the hotel facilities like gym or swimming pool.

I never use any other means of accommodation than a hostel. For me it is the best way to stay for a short period of time in a city and to meet interesting people. Before I set off for a trip to a different city or a country I always check the hostels on a special website and I also talk with friends and people from the hostel or travel forums and ask them their opinion about the hostel I want to stay at. People share their experience with me so I do not have to worry that my choice will be a bad one. What is good about hostels is that they usually offer a sensible standard for a very reasonable price. Sometimes even, their standard is as high as in a hotel, but the fee is much less. In some hostels you have got the breakfast included in the price of the room. What’s more if you are lucky and check carefully you may find very original hostels, where every room is different and the place looks like a magic castle from a fairy tale! But what is really important and very often neglected, are the people. The hostels very seldom have single or double rooms and rooms for more that our people are very common. It means that you share your room with some strangers but if you are lucky you may meet really interesting foreigners and learn about their country, customs or simply make friends for the rest of your life!
