Is there anything better than sitting with your girlfriend in front of TV and waiting until she jumps up to hold you and saying “I will protect you”?
Vampires have appeared in films since the movie industry (przemysł filmowy) began at the end of the 19th century. The first known vampire film was made in 1896. Almost every year a new movie about vampires appears. How to know which is good and worth seeing (warty zobaczenia)?
One of the most popular and best received (najlepiej odebranych) by the fans of vampire movies is “Interview with the Vampire” (Wywiad z Wampirem) directed by Neil Jordan. It’s a horror and drama in one, based on a novel written by Ann Rice.
In a dark room a vampire tells his story to a naive reporter. Louis (Brad Pitt), Lestat (Tom Cruise) and Claudia (Kirsten Dunst) are a very strange family. The vampires stay together for centuries.
The movie is a little too Hollywood in places but fabulous costumes, incredible photos and fine performances (gra aktorska) make the movie perfect entertainment (rozrywka) for a scary evening. And believe me! There are scenes in the movie that make you jump!
It isn’t as philosophical and sensual as the book, but it has a gothic atmosphere and if you like such movies, you have to see this one!
Talking about vampires and forgetting about count Dracula? Impossible! He seems to be the most popular vampire ever. There are many different film stories about him but one of the best versions is “Dracula” directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1992. A great screenplay (scenariusz) and fantastic cast (obsada) makes you love this movie!
This version of Dracula is closely based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel of the same title.
A young lawyer (Keanu Reeves) comes to a gloomy village in the mists (mgły) of Eastern Europe. He stays in the terrifying castle of count Dracula (Gary Oldman). The vampire travels to London to find his love (the lawyer’s fiancé looks exactly like Dracula’s). The story of terror begins and Professor Van Helsing helps to get rid of (pozbyć się) the vampire!
The immortal fight between good and evil, love and hate but also fabulous actors and decorations make the movie incredible. You may feel sorry for Dracula, well he lost the love of his life, but he will remind you how horrible and terrifying he can be. You really have to watch it! This is a masterpiece in the vampire genre (gatunek)!
But not only do horror movies tell vampires’ stories! Bram Stoker’s book was an inspiration for many directors including (włączając w to) Mel Brooks. He’s known from making funny versions of well-known stories like “Star Wars”. In 1995 he directed “Dracula: Dead and Loving It” (“Dracula: Wampiry bez zębów”)! It’s a brilliant comedy telling the same story as the Coppola’s “Dracula”. Small details were changed but you can still recognize (rozpoznać) the main characters (głównych bohaterów). Of course, rich English are attacked by Dracula (Leslie Nielsen) and dr. Van Helsing (Mel Brooks) comes to save them. All you have to do is decide which vision of Dracula is the true one! Coppola’s bloody and vicious creature or Brooks’s quite dangerous but not very smart count from Transylvania.
Enjoy watching vampire movies! Whether they make you terrified or burst with laugh!
