You want to relax in a quiet place, with good food and company in the fresh air and sunshine and forget about all your problems. Is it possible? Of course, it is! Organize a picnic!

To make sure that you’ll have a great time, you should answer these four questions.

1. Where to go?

You have to feel comfortable and find it easy to relax. Think of a beautiful meadow (łąka) or forest where you love to be. It can be also in your backyard (Twoje podwórko), a local park, or a nearby beach. The place also has to be safe (bezpieczne)! You don’t want to get into any trouble! Remember that you are not allowed to picnic in the National Parks unless there’s a special area provided (miejsce specjalnie wyznaczone).

2. How to get there?

You can use a bike, bus, train or your parents car. Well, they have to give you a lift (podwieźć Cię). If the place you chose is not far, you can go there on foot (pieszo). Each way can be nice and interesting. Going by car allows you to take more things but if you want to save some money, walk! You can admire (podziwiać) beautiful views and don’t worry if you get tired. You’ll rest during the picnic. Make sure you’ll be able to get back (wrócić)!

3. What to take with you?

Take the things you like. Not all of them of course! Leave the notebooks at home (you can do your homework the day before). You like reading? Take a book. You like music? Take a CD or MP3 player. Good food and drinks! Take something easy to prepare and make sure (upewnij się) it will be kept (będzie trzymane) in proper conditions (w odpowiednich warunkach). Plates, glasses, forks and knives can plastic. After the picnic you can just throw them away.

4. Who to take with you!

Good company (dobre towarzystwo) is the rule (zasada) for a good time. You can go for a picnic with whoever (kimkolwiek) you want but… you have to like them. It’s a perfect way to spend some time alone with your girlfriend/boyfriend. You can also have a picnic with your family – parents would be happy (byliby szczęśliwi) you still find them nice company. Or you can go with your friends – out of school with no stress, you’ll have fun.

You don’t want your picnic to be washed out (zmyty), so remember to check the latest weather forecast (prognoza pogody). But if the worst happens, who says you can’t picnic indoors (w środku)?

10 rules for each picnicker!

1. Don’t litter! (Nie śmieć!)
2. Don’t disturb other people! (Nie przeszkadzaj innym ludziom!)
3. Respect the wildlife! (Szanuj dziką przyrodę!)
4. Don’t leave your things alone while going for a walk! (Nie zostawiaj swoich rzeczy samych, kiedy idziesz na spacer!)
5. Be careful with water! (Bądź ostrożny z wodą!)
6. Be careful with fire! (Bądź ostrożny z ogniem!)
7. Be careful with insects! (Uważaj na insekty!)
8. Don’t plan anything 100 percent! (Nie planuj niczego na 100 proc.!)
9. Check the weather forecast! (Sprawdź prognozę pogody!)
10. Enjoy yourself! (Baw się dobrze!)

A picnicker’s list!

(Lista piknikowicza)

Whether you’re planning a picnic to celebrate an occasion or simply to enjoy a pleasant summer afternoon, it’s easy to make each picnic unique. The food, candles, flowers, games, music, and other small things you bring will add a special touch. Look at the list and find out if you didn’t forget to take anything!

  • Cooler (chłodziarka), fully stocked with ice or ice packs – it doesn’t have to be big or professional. You need something that will keep your drinks cool.
  • Picnic basket (koszyk piknikowy) – you can use a bag instead but such a basket has a picnic spirit.
  • Food containers (pojemniki na żywność) – they are very important if you don’t want your food to be eaten by ants or snails. They will keep it fresh and clean as well.
  • Blanket or tablecloth (koc lub obrus) – to keep your food (and you!) clean and comfortable.
  • Anti-insect spray (spray przeciw insektom) – you may love and respect nature but don’t exaggerate! Mosquitoes, ticks and ants don’t have to have a picnic with you!
  • Anti-allergy medication (leki przeciwalergiczne) – if you are allergic to any pollen, you should have a pill or cream with you.
  • Umbrella (parasol) – you don’t want to have only one memory from your picnic – sunburn!
  • plates/cups (talerze/kubki) – for serving, that’s obvious!
  • Napkins/paper towels (serwetki/ręczniki papierowe) – to keep your hands and faces clean.
  • Water/beverages (woda/napoje) – you mustn’t forget these especially when it’s hot. You can also take some tea or coffee with you.
  • Trash bags (torby na śmieci) – you mustn’t forget them! You are not allowed, under any circumstances, to leave any rubbish.
  • Low-standing picnic table (niski stolik) – it’s a luxury but if you have one, make your picnic luxurious!
  • Cushions (poduszki) – a picnic in a forest doesn’t mean you have to sit on branches or lie on stones.
  • Folding chairs (składane krzesełka) – if you have a small table with you, they are necessary.
