A language camp

My name is Marlena. This year I’m going to a language camp. I go there every year. I’m 16 so only two more years left! There I met most of my present friends. I study two languages at school: English and German.
I really like it and I know perfectly it will bring me profits in the future. The camp I go to every year is fantastic. The first time I went there, I was nine. At the beginning it was just an adventure (we didn’t only have classes but also discos, trips, games) but now I go there mainly to improve (udoskonalić, ulepszyć) my English and German.

Why do I enjoy going to this camp?

There are interesting classes.
I practice languages every day.
I spend time with my friends.
There are always native teachers.
I visit different places: camp is organized every year in a different place.

What do you need to take with you?

notebook and pens,
dictionary,
movies to watch in original version (wersja oryginalna) with somebody who can help you understand.

A riding-school camp

I’m Adam and I’m 15. My parents love horses and for as long as I remember I was riding horses as well. This is my favourite sport but it’s also the thing I’d love to do in the future. In the summer I go to a riding-school camp. I have my own horse but if you don’t have one, you can go there anyway. During school months I go to a stable (stajnia) twice a week. During holidays I can do it every day. It’s quite expensive but it’s worth it. We also organize discos and bonfires (ognisko).

Why is it my favourite way of spending holidays?

I love horses!
I can learn more about them.
You learn to understand animals.
You do sport all the time.
It’s out of the city.
You can meet new people.

What do you have to pack for this camp?

riding suit (strój jeździecki) – if you don’t have one, just take something comfortable,
helmet (toczek) – you really have to have it,
wipe (bat),
sport wear (odzież sportowa),
old clothes for cleaning the stables.

A sailing camp

Hi, I’m Iza and I’m a fifteen-year-old fan of water. I love water. Holidays without swimming? Impossible (niemożliwe)! In the past I used to spend holidays at the seaside. This summer I want to do something different. I’m going to a sailing camp (obóz żeglarski). My best friend, Ada, went there last year and she says it was fantastic. There’s a lot of work. You have to get up early in the morning and attend classes. I have to learn the sailing vocabulary (słownictwo żeglarskie) and how to behave on
a boat (jak zachowywać się na łodzi). My friend knows it all already but I’m going there for the first time.

So, what made me decide to go to a sailing camp?

You can meet people from all over the country.
You visit different places because you sail.
You can sunbath all the time and you don’t have to lie on the beach doing nothing.
You learn to work in a team and learn from your older colleagues.
In your free time you can swim or fish – it’s by the lake.

When you decide to go to a sailing camp, you can’t forget to take:

swimming suit/trunks,
anti-mosquito lotion (płyn przeciwko komarom) – don’t forget mosquitos love lake districts,
sun lotion with a strong filter (you’re exposed to the sun all the time),
sunglasses (okulary przeciwsłoneczne),
sandals and slippers,
sweater (in the evening it can be quite cold),
binoculars (lornetka),
manual for sailors (podręcznik dla żeglarzy) – it will help you if you forget something.

A survival camp

Hi. My name is Jacek. I’m 16 years old but sometimes I feel as if I was a kid. Especially during holidays! I live in a big city so when I have an opportunity, I run away. I need a change. I’d love to travel but I’m still too young to travel on my own. Besides it’d cost a lot of money (To by sporo kosztowało). I was looking for different camps and finally I found one.
A survival camp! I can’t wait (nie mogę się doczekać)! Far away in the woods, no civilization… I believe I may meet a lot of interesting people. At the camp there will be teenagers just like me – waiting for an adventure.

Why am I going there? Simple:

You can learn how to survive (przetrwać)!
You learn things you don’t learn at school.
Games, tasks and your duties take you to another world.
You learn how to work as a team.
You can get rid of TV for at least two weeks.
You will have great memories and fantastic stories to tell your friends at school.

There’s a long list of things you need to have with you at a survival camp.
Here are some most important:

a torch (latarka),
waterproof clothes (ubrania przeciwdeszczowe),
pocket knife (nóż kieszonkowy),
cooking utensils (przybory do gotowania),
First Aid Kit (apteczka pierwszej pomocy),
whistle (gwizdek),
spade (łopatka),
compass.

If you think of any summer camp, it definitely should be a place you won’t be occupied all the time. If you spend holidays in a place where you have to do too much, you won’t be very happy. Some duties? Of course but you like relaxing as well. Language camp would be perfect for you.

You want your holidays to be intensive but you like comfort as well. Good for you! You can relax while working! Choose a sailing camp (for beginners) or a riding-horse camp.

During holidays you have to be active. If you think of any camp, choose a survival camp. You will have to work all the time. Especially when you have to build your own tent (namiot), get food and find way back in
a forest (las). And if you have to sleep in different places or on a boat, you’ll be in heaven.
