E: There was also something interesting happening in Warsaw on the WHO Earth Day. Tell us something about this event.
S: The meeting I wanted to tell you all about took place on the 18th of April in Warsaw. It was organized by the World Health Organization. Students from all high schools in Prague – came to Haller Square in northern part of Warsaw. It is the central square of this district so whole neighbourhood knew there was something big happening. There were many onlookers and passersby were stopping to see what was going on.
The meeting started with a short play „Save Prague – Recycle”, which students from one of the Prague high schools have prepared. It was great and the audience cheered and clapped. Next, representations of schools prepared speeches so we all felt like in Hyde Park in Speakers’ Corner. After that, some groups sang ecologically friendly songs, which they had specially written for that occasion. At the end, resolution on how to help recycling in Prague, between the schools, was singed.
The meeting was a great success. In my opinion, this was the first big step for students of Prague to take. They showed that they know that they can help keeping the Earth cleaner for longer while taking care about their neighbourhood.

S: I have taken part in a fantastic game recently. It is called paintball. Have you heard of it?
E: A little. What are the rules?
S: There are two teams. Generally the rule is to shoot out all the members of the second team. Sounds horrible but instead of real guns you have special rifles which shoot colourful paints. The winning team goal is to shoot out all the opponents.
E: Did you like the game?
S: It was interesting. We were hiding in a forest and it was difficult to find the opponents because we all were wearing military clothes matching the trees and ground. And it is a strange feeling when you get shot and you can’t play anymore. But I liked it.

S:Yes, I even remember the ingredients. To prepare stuffed tomatoes we need tomatoes, onion, garlic, some olive-oil and parsley.

S:First, dad, you wash the tomatoes and cut off the tops. Then take out the flesh with the spoon. Put the empty tomatoes on a baking tray. Finely chop the onion, garlic and parsley. Add them to the tomato flesh. Put some rice and one cup of olive-oil to the mixture; sprinkle it with salt and pepper. Mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon. Fill the tomatoes with the mixture and cover them with their tops. After that, you put the tomatoes in pre-heated oven and bake for about 50 minutes. It’s really easy to prepare and tastes delicious. We could try preparing it for a dinner.

E: I’ve heard you actually saw the accident yesterday?
S: Unfortunately, I was just coming back from school and stepping off the bus in front of my house when I heard a car yanking. It showed up that some passengers from the bus started crossing the street but one of the drivers passing the bus didn’t notice them.
E: Did anyone get hurt?
S: One of the people crossing the street was hit by the car. He was taken to a hospital. Nobody in the car was injured.

E: So how was your trip to Turkey?
S: It was a real disaster!
E: Maybe it wasn’t that bad…
S: I want to forget it as soon as possible. All of us got sick the very first day out of the blue. Our guide forgot to tell us not to drink tap water and not to eat fruit and vegetables straight from the market. My friends, who drunk some tap water, started vomiting. One girl bought some fruit and got a horrible stomachache. In the evening half of the trip went to bed sick but we could not sleep because some of us had diarrhea and the rest kept vomiting. Some of us had temperature and headaches, and several people got ugly rash all over their bodies. When our guide called finally the doctor we were all lying in beds and dreaming of falling asleep. The doctor claimed food and water poisoning. He gave us some medicines and mineral boiled water and some charcoal to stop diarrhea. We stayed under medical control till the end of the trip.
E: You poor thing. That sounds like you really had a disastrous holiday.

S: There is a lot of open space, so you do not feel claustrophobic. And every shop plays the same music, so you don’t get a headache when you are there. Shops are divided into clear topic areas. So, when you want to buy some sport stuff you enter the area of 20 shops that sell only sport things!
E: That’s really interesting. I must check it out!

E: So, how was your visit at your family?
S: It was very nice. I haven’t seen them for a long time, but the atmosphere was very warm and friendly. I met my uncle, who is my mother’s brother. He is a big and beardy man with dark features. He has a deep low voice and keeps telling jokes and funny stories. His wife, my aunt, is a short and plump woman, who is very warm and patient with her husband. When there is an argument going to start between them he picks her up and carries on his hands and they end up laughing. My cousins are twins. Anna is a very pretty girl, with curly dark hair and green smiling eyes. She is very witty and can be malicious sometimes. And Adam is a skinny, ginger boy, with lots of freckles on his face, very funny. In telling jokes he takes after his father.

E: Tell me something about this job intervew you‘ve been recently invited for.
S: As you propably know I was applying for a waiter post in a restaurant. The job interview was not so bad, although, It was quite stressful.
E: As usuall. What did they ask you about?
S: First they asked about my education and work experience as a waiter. I told them that I have worked as a waiter in a pub during the holiday.
E: I didn’t know that.
S: It was this year. Than they asked about foreign langages, so I explained that I speak English fluently.
E: It might be a plus, because you will serve foreigners.
S: Yes, that’s true. What’s strange they asked about my interests too.
E: I wonder why. What do you think, are you going to get that job?
S: I really don’t know, they promissed to contact me within three days.
E: I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

E: So, how was the film festival you went to?
S: It was really good. It took place in Kazimierz Dolny. There were 6 days of the festival, but I was only able to go there at the weekend, so I missed 3 days.
E: What kind of movies did you see?
S: I saw a couple of polish movies but most of all I wanted to see some American and Scandinavian films. I saw ‘Debt collector’, which was a very good choice. It is a really interesting story, a drama, acted brilliantly. It was directed by Feliks Falk, and I think this is the best polish movie shown this year.
E: What else did you see?
S: I liked the second part of ‘Kill Bill’ with great Uma Thurman, and the movie I found the most interesting, it was a Russian film called ‘Night shift’. It is a black comedy, with a very simple plot. But it is worth seeing, because while watching you get very involved in the action. One more movie I strongly recommend is ‘Corpse bride’. It is a cartoon, but very funny one and well done by Tim Burton. This last one you should really watch.
E: What did you like the most in the festival?
S: Of course a great choice and a wide selection of movies. Unfortunately I was there 3 days, and I regret not having seen the movies shown on the first days of festival.

S: It’s huge as usual, so you get tired while walking around. The shops are badly organised, there are no sections. You can find a sport shop next to a tailored suits shop. It’s really frustrating.
E: Is there anything interesting at all?
S: Two or three shops with some new not very expensive brands that are nowhere else to be found in the town.
E: So I should visit them at the sales time. How can I get there?
S: There is a special free of charge bus running from the city centre and back, every half an hour.
E: If I have too much time next weekend,
I will go there I think my grandma is coming for a visit.

S: It’s green ‘eastpack’ backpack, unfortunately there was my digital camera, a brown polo-neck sweater and some cheese sandwiches in it.
E: Were any documents, mobile or money there?
S: Luckily not. I have my passport and I.D. in my holder and some money in my pocket. I don’t have my mobile with me.
E: Good for you.
S: Are there any chances that I’ll get my things back?
E: To be honest with you, I don’t think so. But we’ll try as we might. How long are you staying here?
S: Three more days.
E: O.K. Is there any way we can contact you if we find something?
S: Just phone the hostel I’m staying at.

S: As you know the ceremony is symbolic and after it you are treated as an adult in Japan.
E: But tell me something more about that.
S: The coming of age ceremony is celebrated when you are twenty. The strangest thing is that students from one year at school have the ceremony at the same time. They dress in traditional kimonos and go with their parents to the city council to sign papers and take some pictures. Than the I.D.’s are given. After that, whole families and their friends go to restaurants or home and have parties and of course take some more photos.
E: That sounds really unusual.
S: It is not as enjoyable as our birthday parties. The kimonos are not very comfortable and it takes hours to put them on properly. What is more important they are very expensive so the families have to hire them sometimes.
E: We can say that our eighteenth birthday clothes are less demanding.

E: Why are you so sure of it.
S: Last week I had a terrible toothache and had to go to the dentist. The doctor checked my tooth and told me I had one cavity. He gave me an anesthetic then. It hurt only a little. The doctor used an electric drill and quickly got rid of caries. Finally he filled my teeth and let me go home!
E: What can I expect then?
S: If you have got a cavity than only a small injection and no pain really! But after the visit I promised myself not to touch chocolate for the rest of my life!

S: Well, not really well. I was doing it for the first time. I was standing in the street in the city centre and asking people to donate money to charity. Almost everyone passed me without even looking at me.
E: There are a lot of conman asking for money in the streets today.
S: Yes, but I had a special tag and we were in a group. I still feel like I’ve waster four hours of my life.
E: Maybe next time you’ll do better.

E: What’s the best way to travel around London?
S: The best way to travel in London is fast. You are spoilt for choice as you can go by London Regional Transport it means bus or underground. If you have some extra cash, you can take a taxi. All of these run from the centre of the city out into the countryside.
E: It sounds good. Are any differences between using public transport in London and Warsaw?
S: You have to remember that British people queue up when waiting for a bus. They get annoyed if you try to jump the queue. One more important thing is to show your ticket to the bus driver when entering the bus.
E: What about the underground?
S: ‘The tube’, as British call it is very fast and you’re never more than a few minutes’ walk away from a station no mater where you are. What’s more if you buy yourself one ticket called a Travel Card, you will be able to travel on both buses and the tube. You will get everywhere quickly and on time.

E: I see a lot has changed in your room, I really like it now. Why did you decide to change it so much?
S: I got bored with the old one, so I decided to not only replace some furniture but also paint it and put some new pieces here and there. As you can see I have threw my old bed out and put a nice looking, green sofa instead. It is very comfortable, though first impression can be deceiving. I have also changed my desk, but it is the same old one which I’ve had for years – I just painted it red and attached couple of drawers inside, so I can keep all my favourite magazines there. Finally, I have hung a few shelves for my books so I didn’t need the horrible black book case any more, that’s why I threw it out as well as the table which used to take up half of the space in my room. I bought a lovely small coffee table which perfectly matches my big blue armchair. At the end, I have reorganized the furniture: I put my desk and armchair near the window and opposite I installed sofa. I think it looks both practical and fabulous now, don’t you think?

E: How was the camp then?
S: It was great, I had a lovely time there. We went at the sea site for two weeks.
E: How was the camp organized?
S: We were divided into two teams, and we had tents set up on both sides of the beach. Each team had its own kitchen and a bathroom. We met only during the games and excursions that our team leaders organized for us.
E: What kind of sports activities did you take part in?
S: Our team was the swimmers so every day we went at the beach where we spent a lot of time swimming, diving, rowing and playing volleyball and underwater hokey. It was great. The other team was volleyball players and runners, so they had a pretty boring time. Sometimes we played volleyball against each other and they would win of course, but when we played underwater hokey they didn’t have any chances to win! During the camp we went couple of times to the city, to see the old town or visit a museum or gallery but it was quite boring so I was happy every time we came back to the beach.

I put the pipe into the bath again and dried the floor. The washing machine works properly. I just forgot to fix the pipe.
E: Were there any complaints?
S: No, nobody was harmed, and there was no leakage because I asked the neighbors downstairs.

When the guests started coming I always had to be ready with the prices and drinks of the day. Finally I had to clean the glasses and lay them again after the guests have left.
E: Did you like it?
S: Yes, a lot. Although the work was exhausting and I sometimes had to be busy as a bee, it was pretty enjoyable and most of the guests used to leave me tips!

E: I heard about some water problems you’ve had recently.

I will remember it for a long time especially that I got so many fantastic presents!

S: A lot. First we ate mash mellows and drank hot chocolate. Then we told spooky stories. I loved it. We went to bed late and scared.

E: That’s something. Has he changed much?
S: Well, not much. He has the same smile and posture. His hair is still wavy and fair. But he has become more open and confident. I really like the way he changed.

S: I worked at my friend’s restaurant as a bartender for two months. Every morning I had to sweep and mop the floor in front of and behind the bar and lay all the pads on the counter before first guests came. Then I checked if I had all the drinks and juices. S: Well, yes, I worked after some time as a stewardess there. But to sum up, I must tell you I wouldn’t decide to leave once again. I missed my family very much and I didn’t feel at home there. I’d rather look for a job in my town.
