branches of science
I would like to be a scientist in the future. I haven’t decided yet which branch of science I should devote myself to because I’m interested both in physics, biology and mathematics. My teacher advised me to study astrophysics as it unites all of my favourite subjects. However, I’m more into cybernetics because I believe it is the science of the future. If I liked chemistry more, I could choose between biochemistry and molecular biology.

scientist
A person I really admire is Maria Skłodowska-Curie. She was an outstanding researcher and a leader in the field of chemistry and physics. The discovery of radioactivity inspired her and her husband Pierre Curie in their brilliant researches and analyses which led to the isolation of two radioactive elements polonium and radium. Together with her husband, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in 1903. In 1911 she received her second Nobel Prize, this time in chemistry, in recognition of her work in radioactivity. She was recognised all over the world as both genius and an extremely laborious scientist.

scientific research
In my opinion the majority of inventions were preceded by tedious work of scientists and only a few inventions were an effect of a brainwave. In the second half of the 19th century Thomas Edison invented a light bulb. However, before this revolutionary achievement was revealed, its author spent long hours in the laboratory. He had to collect data, experiment and analyse all failures in order to improve the device he wanted to create. He managed to construct a light bulb which influenced the progress of humanity and contributed to other important scientific discoveries and inventions.

Dear Mary,
I’m writing to you from a scientific camp in Switzerland. We’re having a great time here. We observe the work of scientists and we are sometimes allowed to help them. We get to know new scientific theories and watch how they are brought into practice. Now I can understand that there is a long way from hypothesis to final conclusions. Researchers have to prove scientifically all new theses and create formulas which may be the basis for further development.
