Dear Mary,
I’m looking for a new babysitter. I had to send away the previous one because she was lazy, dishonest and too clumsy. She was also so absent-minded that she happened to forget about meals for my children. I’ve heard you had a good babysitter last year. I need a hard-working, reliable and well-balanced young woman to look after my boys for eight hours a day. She should be considerate, friendly and above all patient. I know my boys are sometimes naughty but I wouldn’t like anybody to shout at them.

Mark used to be my best friend. He was always an outgoing, hearty and frank companion. Nevertheless, two years ago he changed school and became a completely different person. He is snobbish, pompous and conceited. I think it’s because of the bad influence of his new friends. I met them at his birthday party and they seemed to be self-centred, two-faced and malicious. I don’t think I will ever take to them.
