I had a terrible sore throat last month so I visited a doctor. He examined me thoroughly and prescribed some medicine. Unfortunately, I felt worse and worse so I had to see him again. It turned out that my tonsils were infected and I had to be operated on. I made an appointment with a surgeon and we decided to have them out as soon as possible. First, a nurse took my blood pressure and gave me an injection. Then the surgeon removed my tonsils. I have been feeling much better since then.

Ms Smith is my favourite teacher. I really enjoy her lessons as she knows how to arouse students’ interest in the subject she teaches. She knows how to motivate us to work hard. Although we have a test every week, she always manages to mark them on time. She is not only a great teacher but also a good psychologist who educates us and inspires to behave better.

I want to be a lawyer in the future. I would like to work as a prosecutor who sues dangerous criminals and proves them guilty. I would cooperate with police officers who detain and interrogate them. I would prepare brilliant speeches which would convince the judge about the guilt of the accused. I would not like to be an attorney as they sometimes have to defend criminals in court.

I would like to be a journalist. I would interview famous actors and film directors and then publish my articles in colour magazines. If I am good enough, renowned photographers and fashion designers would help me in my work. I have already tried to work as a reporter in the local radio station. However, I found it boring as the only thing they allowed me to do was to announce some programmes and forecast the weather.

There are a lot of jobs which are essential to the community but they are not appreciated enough. Our lives would be complicated if we did not have an electrician to fit the lighting, a plumber to fix a leaking tap or a mechanic to service a car. If you have new shelves, you call a carpenter so that he can measure and adjust them correctly. And you need a locksmith if you break your key in the lock. We do not realize how often we need craftsmen whose jobs are so important to all of us.
I am going to a hairdresser’s today. I want him to do my hair but I have not decided yet whether to have it trimmed or layered. However, I am sure I will dye it red.
trade – handel
I like shopping in my local shop. The shop assistants are always helpful and friendly. The cashier is not only quick but she sometimes helps me pack up my goods as well. They have all kinds of products so I don’t have to go to the baker’s or the butcher’s as I can buy everything in at the same place. If I am too busy to do the shopping by myself, I call the shop and they deliver everything I need. I do not like salesmen who visit people at homes. They offer cheap goods which are usually of very poor quality. They sometimes promise to send samples of some better ones but they never do.
restaurant – restauracja
I love going to Giovanni’s Restaurant. The food is delicious and the chef really knows how to make good pasta. Waiters and waitresses are friendly and efficient. They bring the menu the moment they see you. They set the tables and carry the orders without disturbing the clients. Moreover, the tables are always beautifully set. It’s a pleasure to dine there.
art – sztuka
I am sure my sister will be an artist in the future. She is an extremely imaginative and creative person. She might be a painter as she is very good at drawing. She makes sketches and then paints portraits of all members of the family. She would not like to be a sculptor since she believes that one has to be physically strong to sculpt well. She has already tried graphic designing but she found it complicated. She might also become a writer. Last year she wrote some poems which were published in the local paper. Critics described her as a promising poet. The only branch of art she is not interested in is music. She knows a lot of composers, pianists and singers but she is not particularly fond of music.
offices and banks – biura i banki
I’d hate to work in the office. I think that a civil servant’s job is one of the most boring and mundane ones. Clerks spend all days in the office rooms issuing certificates, granting or denying permissions or making out invoices. I know it is a well-paid and secure post but I wouldn’t like to work as an accountant or a clerk.
